Application Information
St. Albans Symphony Orchestra invites composers not currently
under professional representation to submit scores for their New Music Day
on 15 September 2007. The session will consist of a rehearsal and an
informal performance, led by composer Paul Patterson, conductor James
Ross, and City of London Sinfonia musicians. Composers should
submit:
1. C.V. (2 pages maximum) with contact address and email.
2. Full score (preferably without C transpositions).
3. A sample CD (computer or piano reduction acceptable).
3. £10 administration fee per score submitted, to St. Albans Symphony Orchestra
Submissions should be sent to Mrs Gillian Stansfield, Secretary, St. Albans Symphony Orchestra, 71, Watford Road, St. Albans, HERTS AL1 2AE; inquiries to secretary@saso.org.uk.
Deadline for submission: postmark 31 July 2007. Selection of scores will be completed by mid-August. Incomplete submissions cannot be accepted.
Notes for Composers
Approximately six scores will be selected for rehearsal and performance.
Each selected score will receive equal orchestra time of approximately 40 minutes, plus performance. A further 2½ hour rehearsal will be held in the previous week.
One place may be reserved for residents of Hertfordshire if scores of appropriate quality are submitted.
There are no age restrictions.
SASO / CLS will provide 3(1/alto).2(1).3(1).2(1).- 4.2.3.1. - timpani (2) - 1pc (cymbals, bass drum, side drum, tambourine, triangle, tam-tam) - strings. Soloists or additional players are the responsibility of the composer, although SASO will assist when possible. Any style of composition is welcome; successful scores will show strong command of orchestral technique.
Composers may record rehearsal and performance of their own works for personal non-commercial use.
Scores and CDs will be returned following selection.
Representatives from publishers will be invited to attend.
The SASO / CLS New Music Day is funded by the Arts Council, East; Eastern Orchestral Board and St.Albans City and District Council.
