Errors
in Orchestral Scores and Parts
Despite
publication of revised editions of orchestral
repertoire, much material still contains significant errors. Norman del
Mar's Orchestral Variations (Eulenburg, London, 1981),
studies 45 works: newer editions have made some chapters obsolete (e.g. Beethoven symphonies),
but most remain valid. Some works, e.g. Debussy, Prélude à L'Après-midi d'un faune)
are treated thoroughly in the US Conductors
Guild Journal. The list
below contains errors found during preparation and
rehearsals for concerts. Any comments to conductor
[at] saso.org.uk. Please give details of edition and contact details. A
credit and link will be
given.
